Weekend Preview: Cars

by The Commish on Thursday, June 15, 2017

Four new movies hit theaters this weekend looking to best two-time champ Wonder Woman.  Pixar’s latest Cars 3 will take the checkered flag with a decent opening around $60 million, it’s long-term success will be limited due to Despicable Me 3 looming on the horizon.  Wonder Woman will fall a spot and looks to bring in $35 million. We are predicting All Eyez on Me to hold off Rough Night for third spot, but neither pic looks to make too much of a dent at the box office moving forward.

1. Cars 3 $60 million – the marketing juggernaut that is the Cars franchise continues with the latest installment.  We are hoping for a final better than the mess that was Cars 2, it will be close, but expect Cars 3 to coast by the $200 million lap.

2. Wonder Woman $35 million – it will be around $270 million after the weekend making a $330 million finish possible.

3. All Eyez on Me $17.5 million – we’re a little worried that there haven’t been any reviews released, but Tupac continues to be a pop culture icon decades after his death, look for a final around $45 million.

4. Rough Night $15 million – Flickamo players continue to look for the next Bridesmaids, unfortunately this isn’t it.  We expect this to struggle to make $60 million.

5. The Mummy $14 million – not the start that the Dark Universe wanted to start, expecting a $75 million finish.

6. Captain Underpants $6.5 million – performing much like we originally had it at the beginning of the year.

7. Pirates of the Caribbean 5 $5.5 million – a disappointment.

8. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 $4 million – still aiming for a $380 million final.

9. 47 Meters Below $3.5 million – should I be concerned that it’s not playing in a theater near me?

10. It Comes at Night $3 million – I’m a little surprised with this result.
