Weekend Preview - August 12

Look for Suicide Squad to continue its place on top of the box office podium.  Two new releases should slug it out for second and third.  I go back and forth on this, but this morning I’m thinking that Sausage Party edges Pete’s Dragon for silver.

1. Suicide Squad $48 million – funny thing about watching SS, I liked the characters, I just didn’t like the movie.

2. Sausage Party $28 million – reviews have been really good (84 RT) and it could see a nice multiplier, may flirt with $100 million.

3. Pete’s Dragon $25 million – if it does over $25 million, it looks good for a $100 million total, if under, $60 million could be in the cards.

4. Jason Bourne $10.5 million – quietly heading towards $160 million.

5. Bad Moms $8.5 million – the mid-week holds have been really good, it’s becoming one of those event movies, should get to the $100 million plateau.

6. Florence Foster Jenkins $7 million – Streep’s period pieces are a little hit and miss; this may have trouble making it to $30 million.

7. The Secret Life of Pets $6.5 million - $350 million looks like the final resting spot for it.

8. Star Trek 3 $5 million – not a pretty result.

9. Lights Out $3.5 million – will end its run around $65 million.

10. Nine Lives $3 million – so this didn’t work.
