Weekend Preview

by The Commish on Wednesday, December 6, 2017

We’ve hit the second weekend of December, which means less and less sleeps until Star Wars.  The box office will again have that feeling of déjà vu as only one new movie goes into full release, while a couple more critical darlings expand onto more screens.  Coco will again lead the box office, but we’re expecting a tight race for second as Justice League, Wonder and The Disaster Artist will battle for the last two spots on the podium.

1. Coco $18 million – can it keep Moana’s pace, we think not, but it still looks like a lock for $200 million.

2. Wonder $9.5 million – we like it to squeak into second spot on its way to $150 million.

3. Justice League $9 million – a pretty large disappointment.

4. The Disaster Artist $8 million – reviews have been excellent, this could turn into a sleeper.

5. Thor $7 million – it should pass $300 million this weekend.

6. Just Getting Started $5 million – its audience rarely rushes to cinemas on opening weekend.

7. Daddy’s Home 2 $4.5 million – slowly filling its box office coffers.

8. Murder on the Orient Express $3.5 million – will see a drop due to greater competition.

9. Three Billboards $3 million – should hold nicely.

10. Lady Bird $3 million - ditto
