Weekend Preview

by The Commish on Wednesday, July 5, 2017

Here comes your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.  For its second reboot in less than seven years, Spidey is now part of the Marvel Universe, which should see an uptake at the box office.  Reviews have been great and we are predicting an opening north of $100 million.  DM3 will drop a spot to number two and surprise hit Baby Driver will round out the top three.

1. Spider-Man: Homecoming $120 million – the weekend looks bright and it should flirt with $300 million.

2. Despicable Me 3 $40 million – those who were hoping for $300 million, now might be praying for $275.

3. Baby Driver $14 million – a great late round pick by teams smart enough to get it.

4. Wonder Woman $9 million – still holding on and we are now predicting it to win the summer.

5. Transformers 5 $7 million – a final around $130 million must be disappointing.

6. Cars 3 $5 million – at least we won’t have to ever write Cars 4.

7. The House $4.5 million – not the summer to pick comedies.

8. 47 Meters Down $2.5 million – short, sweet, easy, all you need in a shark movie.

9. The Beguiled $2 million

10. The Big Sick $1.5 million
