2017 Rankings - July

by The Commish on Sunday, July 9, 2017

Every month we rank the top 75 movies by season.  The box office year is a moving target, so make sure to read this column every month to find out how your movies rank, and what movies you should be targeting on the waiver wire.

Summer
1. (4) Wonder Woman – moving it into the top spot, this has been a superb run and we think it will just fall short of $400 million.
2. (1) Guardians of the Galaxy 2 – $390 million is a pretty great haul, it’s just not enough to win over the Woman.
3. (3) Spider-Man: Homecoming – it all comes down to the multiplier!
4. (2) Despicable Me 3 – don’t think it hits $300 million, which is a bit of a surprise.
5. (7) Dunkirk – moving it into the top 5.
6. (9) Pirates of the Caribbean 5 – after a lackluster start it just kept going and will finish around $175 million.
7. (8) War of the Planet of the Apes – it’s a waiting game now, let’s see what happens.
8. (6) Cars 3 – disappointed with the performance of Cars 3, but it shouldn’t reflect other Pixar projects going forward.
9. (5) Transformers 5 – it won’t crack $150 million, a huge disappointment for Flickamo players who expected something better.
10. (12) The Dark Tower – it’s anyone’s guess what it ends up making.
11. (-) Baby Driver – yup, we’re expecting it to flirt with the top 10, this movie is a difference maker.
12. (11) Emoji Movie: Express Yourself – the office is completely divided on where this one ends up
13. (10) The Mummy – disappointing.
14. (13) Captain Underpants – it didn’t over perform, it just performed.
15. (16) Alien: Covenant
